Trump noted that Lewis George secured 54.1% of votes in the Democratic primary, nearly 20 points ahead of her closest opponent, Kenyan R. McDuffie. With no major challengers expected in November’s general election, her victory signals a likely path to becoming D.C.’s next mayor. The president labeled her agenda as a direct threat to his efforts to transform Washington into “the Envy of the World” with “almost No Crime” and a “beautification process second to none,” declaring he would not stand by while a “Communist adherent” undermined those gains.
Lewis George’s platform, Trump argued, directly contradicts the progress D.C. has made under his leadership—including National Guard deployments, monument restoration, and a significant drop in crime. He emphasized that her policies risk broadcasting “American weakness to the world,” given Washington, D.C.’s unique role as the nation’s capital where foreign dignitaries gather and constitutional landmarks stand.
