Pelosi previously pleaded guilty in Napa County to a misdemeanor DUI in 2022 following an accident that injured another driver. That conviction resulted in probation, fines exceeding $6,000, and mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
On July 17, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley filed a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge against Pelosi for failing to stop and report the incident. Authorities noted alcohol was not involved this time but referred him to the California DMV for a driving capability evaluation—a standard procedure for elderly drivers in such cases.
When reporters questioned Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill about her husband’s legal troubles, she offered no response until her staff intervened. The staffer stated, “That’s enough,” after inquiries by media outlets escalated.
